Working with HWAz

Overview:

This course mainly introduces how to work with the product "HCL Workload Automation for z/OS" and how to use advanced features of the HWAz product.

This course explains workload overview, phases of HWAz, i.e., Modelling (What, Where and When to run Workload), Scheduling (Create or Modify plans), Monitoring and Managing (Handling workload) via HWAz product Interfaces like DWC (Dynamic Workload Console) and ISPF Dialog screens also it includes topics like Dependency types in HWAz, variable tables and how to use them in scheduling workload.

It also covers additional information like why Modernization is required and Mainframe and HWAz product is doing it by integrating DevOps with HWAz, integrating REST API with HWAz and by Raising E-mail Alerts/Incidents via HWAz.

Audience:

This course is suitable for Analysts, Schedulers, Operators and Mainframe Practitioner who works with scheduling and operating workload schedule on z/OS.

Prerequisites:

Understanding about Mainframe workload scheduler.

Objectives:

On successful completion of this course, attendees will be able to understand concepts:

  • HWAz Phases.
  • Workload Overview.
  • Dependencies.
  • Variable Tables.
  • Monitoring and Managing via ISPF and DWC Interface
  • What-IF Analysis.
  • Why Modernization is required.
  • How to work with Workload Automation Programming Interface and DEVOPS
  • How to Integrate Mainframe with REST API.
  • How to raise Email Alerts/Incidents via Mainframe.

Topics:

HWAz Phases.

This topic explains various phases of the product HWAz i.e., Modelling, Scheduling workload and Monitoring and Managing.

In Modelling we discuss about What to run workload, where to run workload and when to run the workload.

Dependencies.

This topic describes various dependency types in Mainframe and how we use this dependency type to schedule workload.

Variable Table.

This topic explains what Variable table in mainframe and how, we use the variable table concepts in scheduling workload and advantages of using user defined variable table.

Monitoring and Managing via ISPF and DWC Interface.

This topic introduces 2 interfaces of the product HWAz i.e., ISPF and DWC along with this it also explains how to Monitor and Manage the workload using these 2 interfaces of the product.

What-IF Analysis.

This topic introduces an important feature that Mainframe practitioner should start using while monitoring the workload. How to react and respond if the batches are running late or stuck due to normal or abnormal events in the environment.

WAPL and DevOps.

This topic explains how to integrate DevOps with HWAz product and how to use the DevOps feature.

Integrating REST API with HWAz.

This topic describes how mainframe Operator can use RESTAPI to load applications from REST API to DWC interface and how to manage the workload from REST API. It also explains basic understanding of REST API features and introduces CRUD functions.

Raising Email Alerts/Incidents.

This topic introduces how HWAz product can be used to raise E-mail alerts and Incident alerts on ITSM tools like ServiceNow and how this feature helps Business and Mainframe Operators.
